Speech and Language UK Rally in Parliament Square

What an opportunity and what an experience! Swan class had a fantastic time at Parliament Square, standing side by side with like-minded parents, education staff, charity workers and of course, children to have our voices heard (Article 12: I have the right to be listened to and taken seriously).

We were also joined by some of our families from Woodpecker and Toucan classes who all brought their voices to be heard.

We listened to Jane Harris, our CEO of Speech and Language UK, an incredible young girl Charlotte who talked about her own experiences of DLD and Sir Ed Davey, Leader of the Liberal Democrat party. Later on, we went into the Houses of Parliament where we gave Lord Touhig a thank you card that the children had made to show their appreciation of all his support in what we are doing in our rights respecting journey. We walked through the Palace of Westminster to the Committee Rooms where a drop in event was taking place with over 40 MPs to listen to the families of children who have worked hard to get them their EHCPs and finished off with a much-needed cuppa in the cafe!

All this and our amazing children took it all in their stride – it was humbling to see them so confidently and passionately standing up for themselves, advocating for their rights and those of their peers across the country. Not even the national press could throw them off their focus! What an incredible team Swan Class really are – we are beyond proud!
